Persuasion impacts us, it motivates us and influences us. It is used in the media to influence every day whether that be trying to convince us to support a brand or company by purchasing their items or to convince us to support a cause.

Framing is used in persuasion with the media. It is when the media takes social cues and manipulates it to show what they want to broadcast. The media uses framing messages to inform its people.

Persuasion is best when the people are trustworthy as it increases the chance people will listen.

There are types of psychological persuasion as well. Reciprocation is when you do something for someone else.

An example of this could be paying for the meals with a friend, leading to the chance of them paying next time higher.

Commitment and consistency are when you are able to get someone to commit to doing something that you want without giving them the information.

Being consistent is important if you want to avoid cognitive dissonance.

This is when you can’t have two or more beliefs simultaneously. People will either ignore information or they will lose the trust in what they were believing.

Social proof is another type of psychological persuasion. This is when people do what they see others doing. An example of this could be influences using a product or seeing people wear a hoodie that you saw on an ad.

The more people see someone doing or using something, the higher chance you will likely use it or do that as well. Advertising uses this to persuade people.

Finally, liking and authority is the last part of psychological persuasion. People become more persuasive when they are likeable or in power. This makes it easier to influence others.
