It's all in the details

Below is my collage of screenshots or photos taken during the 24 hours documenting my media usage, combined together to make the formula 1 logo.

After observing my media use for 24 hours I realized so many things about myself, and the media portrayed to me.

I noticed that I was constantly checking my phone for notifications from Formula 1 teams. It was car release week so every time I became somewhat bored, I immediately would press my lock screen to see if anything else had come up.

I also realized that most of my for you page or my feed on social media was focused on Formula 1 information, updates, and photos. I know that this is a massive part of my life and truly does bring me joy and peace.

I noticed how my music taste would change throughout the day depending on my mood. If I was on my way to school, I was listening to more upbeat music as I was excited for class. On my way to work it was more comfort music because I never know what kind of day my job will spring on me so I was listening to more familiar songs that never get old.

For my 24 hours I was on my phone for 4 hours and 27 minutes. I spent over 2 hours on social media alone, about an hour on entertainment and under 10 minutes on finances. Tik tok alone was over 2 hours of my time, closely followed by Instagram which was just under an hour and a half. I spent a little over an hour in messages as well.

When going in depth with this, I noticed how much of my media use was actually communicating with friends and family. I didn’t realize how often me and my friends are texting or sending each other videos on Instagram.

I think my usage in the 24 hours didn’t fully depict me. I spend most of my time at work or at school. It does show how I spend my break time. When I get home and I am tired from a long day at work and school, I want to fill my time with things that make me happy.

 In that sense, it does show an accurate depiction of me. I truly love Formula 1 with all of my heart. I love music and enjoy laughing. That is what my for you page and feed are full of. Things that make me laugh, new music that has been released, and updates about the cars and the teams/drivers that make up Formula 1.

I think my media usage shows how I enjoy communicating with friends and sharing things. My over an hour in just my text messages app shows how I am always messaging my friends. I noticed how when it’s cold outside, I walked in silence. When it was warm, I called a friend walking in between my classes. 

I think my media usage shows how I am a people person. I love hearing how others are doing and what they are doing. I enjoy my racing hobby and listening to music to regulate my feelings and to help me make sense of a situation. In this media diary, I realized how media is a comfort for me and can be a distraction or a release in a sense from my day-to-day things.
