With communication comes ethics. Ethics is the process of determining right and wrong. This can be affected by mass media. People use ethics to make judgments and decisions that can have big or small impacts on their lives. The media is used by many to share things such as culture, political beliefs, etc. People such as the government, companies, brands, and the news use the media to gain exposure either for themselves or for their company, to express their beliefs and values and things as simple as their opinions. Mass media is a platform for people to share and communicate with others. This can be used to persuade people to buy certain items, support certain brands based off of the beliefs they share, or even by political faces to help gain voters. The media and their audience’s connection are mixed with many things. People’s surroundings also impact them as well. If family members and friends are seeing the same type of media, they will tend to be more affected by it.  I really love how it talked about mass media is known to be gatekeepers as well. I think something not well talked about when it comes to the media is the way they filter what we see and hear. This can be used to further push views and beliefs on people by leaving out information from the public. By leaving out pieces of information, you can sway people to believe and act in certain ways. This impacts the ethical part of communication. People don’t always acknowledge the gatekeeping aspect which can cause different beliefs in people.

The communication accommodation theory talks about people’s accommodations with other cultures such as accents or different languages depends on their perception of the culture. Intercultural speech is something I think is interesting. Depending on our culture, we will talk a different way, express things differently, how we address people is different. I think that is something super cool and makes us all unique.
