In our everyday lives, especially pop culture, there are countless signs and symbols that have meaning behind them, even if we don’t always notice.
A lot of these can go unseen as they can be as small as the clothes we wear, the jewelry we wear, or even the type of shoes we wear.

What we wear gives people an image of us. The things we wear are examples of signs. It gives people a connotation of you. A connotation involves signifying signs/important. It’s what is in your head.
Semiotics are what we use to analyze things such as pop culture. Semiotics are when we look at signs as a message to be decoded to find the meaning.
When it comes to entertainment it’s important to think of the 3 questions; Why does it look the way it does, why is it saying what it says, and why are we enjoying it?
These are such great questions to ask ourselves when partaking in entertainment.
Some examples of semiotics that are used in our daily live are things like the traffic signs on the road, stickers on the back of people’s cars, or even things like emojis you are sending to your friends

Signs have more than one meaning as well. Because signs have multiple meanings and since the world is constantly evolving, the meanings are always changing as well.
Some more examples of signs would be flags. Many flags use red, white, and blue but depending on the placement, it will represent a completely different place.
Think of the French and Dutch flag. They both use red, white, and blue colors but because the direction is different, it represents different countries.

Overall, signs and symbols are in our everyday lives and things we can use to decode these are called semiotics.
